Commercial Project: Super Paper Towel

Domonique:

Kristian, Christian, and I worked together on the project SuperTowel. This product is soo strong that it can suck up the whole Lake Michigan. To make this commercial possible first we worked together using someone in the green room and directed them what to do. After we split up into doing different parts of the project. Kristian worked on making the water spill on the table, Christian worked on modeling the kitchen, and I worked on animating the Super Paper Towel.

To animate the papertowel I used the Maya program. I used the polygon tool to model the papertowel's body, legs, eyes and mouth. After, I used polygon split tool to make the ridges and the pattern of thats on the papertowel. Once that was done I used the joint tool to make the towel move. Finally I animated the SuperTowel in Maya.

Final- What I did different to the Papertowel is making the towel blue when sucking up water. Also I made the eyeballs by using the Paint selection tool and using the shader. I had to go through the files to find the image of the eyeballs I wanted to be on the towel.
Part One:

Within my group and I's Commercial Project; Super Paper Towel, I designed and created the entire 3 Dimensional environment AutoDesk Maya 2011 and made the final composition of our project in Adobe After Affects. The 3D environment that I decided to create was a kitchen because it corresponded with what our initial goal was and that was to advertise a paper towel. The software that I used to create the environment was AutoDesk Maya 2011. The polygons that I used to create the environment was a torus, spheres, rectangles, and cylinders. As I used these polygons, I manipulated the edges and vertices to display exactly how I wanted to polygons to visually display. After finishing my 3D environment, I had to go to a website called, "www.creativecrash.com" to download "shaders" or color materials to make my environment eye catching. I downloaded shaders such as walnut wood, shinny metal, corroded metal, gold metal, and so much more. After applying these shaders to my environment, I created a camera within AutoDesk Maya and started to take digital photos of it and in addition of particular angles. Finally, I rendered those photos, so I can import those photos into Adobe After Affects to start my final composition of our project.

Within Adobe After Affects, I collected all of my group members footage, rendered photos, and AutoDesk Maya animations and made a commercial out of everything. The hardest thing that I faced while completing this task was making our green room footage angles corresponded with our 3D kitchen render photos. I soon found out that they did not, so I thought of a way to make them fit. I did this by making at least 7-8 different masks  over four duplicated videos of the same thing.

Part 2:

During my extra week of working on our commercial project, I learned that it was extremely hard to find "good" background music and sound effects that would potentially fit well with our commercial project. I also learned that communicating with your team mates and allowing them to know that when you are not going to attending that day, you should let them know ahead of time, so you can plan out everything you are going to be doing ahead of time.

Kristian:

For this project I made the 3D cup and the liquid inside it, I also helped put together the final product, helped my fellow group member with the animation of the "super towel", and located the sound clips that go with parts of the video. Creating the cup was the simplest thing to do because all I needed to do was put together a few different shapes. The water I made was just an effect that I added to the cup. The water was the hardest thing I had made because of the problem that I had ran into using it. Most of the time the effect would not work with the the work with the cup I made.

-Final render
For the final render of the commercial i added some different things. In the video you will see a re-render out 3D cup with this time some 2D water. The 2D was created in maya as well as the 3D cup.
